PSG’s dream continues in Dortmund

When people think of PSG, they mostly think of their faults and not their successes.

Les Parisiens have always had a team full of superstars, many of the biggest names in football like Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr have adorned the colors of the French club.

However, for all the star power they have possessed over the past decade, the one thing they were desperate to win has eluded them. That’s right, the Champions League trophy.

They came close four years ago, reaching the final before a agonizing 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at an empty Estádio da Luz in Lisbon. A real low point for the club.

The Parisians had so many near misses, but they never really felt like they would take the plunge to get their hands on those good old “big ears.” That feeling has changed this year.

This side looks different. It’s not just about Kylian Mbappe and his friends, the team works for each other and works for the badge.

Win tonight and they are one step closer to their dream.

Last night in Munich

I just had to mention last night, it was a sensational match.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid never disappoint and once again they gave us another action-packed night of European football.

It was 90 minutes that went back and forth. Real Madrid hit Bayern Munich with a first-half punch through Vinicius Jr and by half-time they had the ascendancy.

However, that changed quite quickly when the hosts turned the game around within 12 minutes of the second half after Leroy Sane and Harry Kane both found the back of the net.

The Bavarians should have killed off the 14-time winners, but they didn’t and of course it was Madrid who had the last laugh.

Vinicius Jr scored from the spot seven minutes from time to ensure nothing separates the two teams until next week. It must be said that this is an advantage for Real Madrid now.

If tonight is anything like what we saw at the Allianz Arena, we’re in for a treat.

How did they come here?

At this point, I think we should look at how both teams got to the semi-final stage.

As we know, both teams came from Group F, which included AC Milan and Newcastle United. Dortmund top the group with 11 points while PSG finish second with eight. Now let’s take a closer look at their results in the knockout stage (we’ll show the overall scores):

  • Round of 16: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 3-1 PSV & Real Sociedad 1-4 PSG
  • Quarterfinal: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 5-4 Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona 4-6 PSG

These two both helped us break ties in the quarterfinals, both coming back from first leg deficits to edge out the high-scoring thrillers.

If they give us another belt, we’ll all smile.

Déjà vu in Dortmund

Something seems a little familiar about this device…

Oh yes, I know why, because they have already faced each other twice in the Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund and PSG were placed in Group F, considered at the time to be the “group of death”. They almost made it out alive.

They faced each other in the first and final matchweeks of the group stage, with PSG winning 2–0 at the Parc des Princes on the opening day, while they finished with a goal each in the Signal Iduna Park in the reverse match.

However, that was then and is now. PSG, in particular, feel like a different prospect from the start of the campaign. I doubt that the matches at the start of the season will be valid.

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, and they’ll both feel good (I’m sorry).

Ready for round two?

As Abba sings in “Mamma Mia”, here we go again…

I’ve only just recovered from last night’s thriller and now it’s time to start all over again. I’m certainly not complaining.

We remain in Germany this evening after last night’s exploits in Munich as Borussia Dortmund host PSG at Signal Iduna Park.

Last night was certainly a tough act to follow from an enjoyment standpoint, but these two teams certainly know how to entertain the fans. The Champions League always keeps its promises.

So, are you ready? Because I am. Let’s get this show on the road.
