Tong Announces Investigation Into Troubled Capulet Fest – NBC Connecticut

Attorney General William Tong launches investigation into this weekend’s Capulet Fest.

“What happened to the people who paid for the tickets is outrageous, it’s wrong and it’s unacceptable,” Tong said at a news conference, adding that his office had already received 60 complaints as of noon Tuesday.

Fans expressed frustration with what was billed as a three-day outdoor rock music festival at Thompson Speedway Mortorsports Park.

At the last minute, Capulet Entertainment LLC announced that the event had been moved to Hartford’s Webster Theater. It was also condensed to two days, with some performances canceled.

“We should definitely get a refund for Sunday because we paid for a show that we couldn’t attend,” said Krystal Johnson, a Rhode Island woman who attended the event.

Capulet Entertainment owner Estevan Vega also runs Joey’s Barber Lounge in Colchester. Employees at the salon said he was unavailable for comment today.

Tong said his office has reached out to Vega’s attorneys, but so far he has not heard an explanation for why the event was moved and the shows canceled.

“There’s no law that says a concert promoter is supposed to do x, y and z, they’re just not supposed to lie to people,” Tong said.

Vega announced the venue change Thursday, the day before the event. Some fans and bands said they only heard about it on social media or when others were there.

“Don’t you think you should stay in touch with them and let them know what’s going on,” Magic Moment singer and manager Andrey Bozyrkin said.

Bozyrkin said Magic Moment is offering refunds to fans who purchased tickets directly from the band, although so far no one has asked for them.

Other bands have offered free tickets to their upcoming concerts.

“The fact that some of these groups are doing more than the promoter, that says a lot,” Johnson said.

Tong suggested fans contact their bank or credit card company for assistance. He added that it was too early to say how the investigation would end, including whether he could help fans recover any potential refunds.

“I obviously want to do the best I can for the fans, but I certainly want to make it clear that I don’t know if Capulet is a big business,” he said. “I don’t know what Mr. Vega’s financial situation is. I don’t know where the money is.”
