Patrick Mahomes reveals one thing that surprised him most about new Chiefs WR and says Andy Reid will ‘utilize him in different ways than he’s been used before’

Patrick Mahomes has a new wide receiver and apparently can’t wait to get started with him.

In March, former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown joined the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year contract worth up to $11 million. of dollars.

The Chiefs have been in need of an upgrade for some time and Mahomes wasted no time getting acquainted with his new offensive weapon.

Footage of the two training together recently went viral and this week Mahomes led workouts in Texas where he had the chance to get a closer look at Brown.

Brown is known for his speed, but the KC QB said in a video conference with reporters that Hollywood’s route is what surprised him the most.

“I think the route is what pleasantly surprised me,” Patrick Mahomes reportedly said.

“Hollywood, I think you obviously see the speed,” Mahomes continued.

“You see the speed instantly. But I think what I like so far is how hard he works. He participated in all the training and the courses, and he wants more, he wants to continue to surpass himself more and more.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP also envisions a big role for Brown next season and believes head coach Andy Reid can use him in a way his previous teams haven’t.

“I think he’ll have a big role in this offense, the way he’s able to run routes, the way he’s able to expand the field, I think it’ll be different again than what you’ve seen before because I think we could use it in different ways that I think it’s been used in before,” Mahomes said.

Brown’s move to the Chiefs makes perfect sense given the team’s expansion issues last season.

Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (who has since been released) all made costly mistakes that hurt the Chiefs in the regular season.

Elsewhere, Rashee Rice’s status for the 2024 season remains uncertain following his involvement in a car crash in Dallas in March.

“Hollywood” represents the kind of speedy playmaker the Chiefs have been crying out for, especially after trading Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins in 2022.

Brown, 26, was a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent the first three seasons of his career with the team.

He had 584 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie campaign, followed by 769 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in his sophomore season.

In his final season in Baltimore in 2021, Brown made 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.

He joined the Cardinals in 2022, recording 118 catches for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns in 26 games over two seasons.

Brown signed a one-year contract worth $7 million with Kansas City, including a $3 million signing bonus, bringing the total amount of the deal to $11 million.

However, the deal comes with some interesting caveats, as Brown’s $7 million contract provides up to $4 million in additional incentives.

The Chiefs are trying to win an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat next season after becoming the first team since the 2004 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.

They made a number of interesting moves to strengthen their team ahead of the new season after losing star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans.

Andy Reid’s team re-signed defensive stalwarts Chris Jones, Drue Tranquill and Mike Danna.

They also added a former rugby union star and a forgotten Super Bowl-winning QB to back up Mahomes.

They will also look to strengthen their team in the upcoming NFL Draft and could target two more wide receivers.
