Several NFL teams have pursued Louis Rees-Zammit.

But the former Welsh rugby star chose a team because they had a serious plan for him in 2024 and a vision of how best to utilize his athletic abilities.

While the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos and New York Jets all showed real interest in Rees-Zammit, he was ultimately lured to the Kansas City Chiefs.

But Rees-Zammit saw something bigger that made him choose the Chiefs over everyone else in the NFL.

As the NFL significantly changed its kickoff rules for the upcoming 2024 season, the former rugby star loved what he heard from Kansas City about how the rules could be bent with Rees-Zammit in the middle of the action.

Rees-Zammit said the Chiefs coaches were “lovely” to him in meetings and that he feels aligned with everything that makes Kansas City elite in the NFL.

“When you walk into the facility, you feel like you’re going to win,” he said. “They obviously have all the Super Bowl trophies in front of you and everyone in the building is so confident, they’re so talkative, it just feels like a belief within the establishment itself. When I’m walked in there, I was blown away.”

“I always told myself: I’m going to sit down with my family and have a team that has a good plan for me and we’re all on the same page,” he said. “The Kansas City Chiefs were the team for me. I’m excited to jump in and get to work.”

Rees-Zammit’s decision to leave England rugby union team Gloucester in January and leave his international career with Wales to join the NFL’s international players program was criticized by some and seen as a huge career challenge.

But he was being pursued by several NFL franchises and others were waiting for a workout.

“I ended up joining four teams,” he said. “I was supposed to go further, but I had kind of figured out where I wanted to go based on the plan they had for me.

“The last one was the Kansas City Chiefs. They’ve been absolutely incredible with me. I’ve met with all the coaches. We have a really good plan together, all on the same page.”

The Chiefs are trying to become the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Rees-Zammit is trying to make the 53-man roster for Week 1, then be on the active roster and part of Mahomes’ offense on game day.
