Patrick Mahomes insisted the Kansas City Chiefs will seal the historic Super Bowl three-peat next February in New Orleans.

Mahomes and the Chiefs won their second straight championship against the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year, and a victory in next season’s title game would be the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

The Green Bay Packers’ trio of NFL titles from 1965 to 1967 was the last three-peat in American football history, coming just short of the first Super Bowl.

Mahomes also revealed that the game-winning touchdown thrown to Mecole Hardman in overtime was not designed with the receiver as the primary target. Yet the 49ers defense left him in the slot wide open.

The intent of the play was a shovel pass to Jerick McKinnon to try to win the game. Then Mahomes saw Hardman open with only the end zone and a second straight Super Bowl victory ahead of him.

Hardman’s winning score was a play called “corndog,” with a receiver faking his intention to cross the field, then running back in the direction he came from.

This play was also run with Kadarius Toney in place of Hardman for a 5-yard touchdown against the Eagles in last year’s Super Bowl.

Mahomes committed to running the play for a touchdown in a third straight Super Bowl.

Who will be the target receiver for this third consecutive dream touchdown in the Super Bowl?

Hardman is a free agent and Toney fell out of favor with the Chiefs after a few missteps late last season.

There’s always Travis Kelce waiting in the wings, who will no doubt have a lot of eyes on him.
