Panic erupts on AirAsia flight from Perth to Jakarta with passengers crying and unable to breathe after power outage.

Panic erupted on board a departing plane on Anzac Day after the plane lost power before takeoff in Perth.

AirAsia flight QZ533 was due to leave Western Australia around 3am on Thursday when passengers reported a power outage while still on the tarmac.

A passenger told Nine News people started crying and struggling to breathe on the plane to Jakarta, Indonesia.

The passenger claimed that 17 passengers were deplaned and were stranded without any assistance from airline staff.

A Perth Airport spokesperson confirmed the passengers had voluntarily disembarked from the plane following “technical problems”.

“We were informed of a technical problem at the airport as the plane took off just before 3 a.m.,” the spokesperson said.

“It should land shortly. We don’t know what the problem was and we can’t comment specifically on the airline (AirtAsia).

He left an hour late according to Flight Aware and was due to arrive at Jakarta airport more than an hour and a half late.
