Eight watches belonging to Michael Schumacher were sold at auction in Geneva on Tuesday for a total of four million Swiss francs ($4.4 million / 4.1 million euros).

The seven-time Formula 1 champion was an avid watch collector until his skiing accident in December 2013, since which he has not been seen in public.

Two of the timepieces auctioned at Christie’s were personalized gifts Schumacher received from then-Ferrari team principal Jean Todt to celebrate his achievements with the Italian manufacturer.

An FP Journe Vagabondage with a dial honoring the seven F1 world championships won by Schumacher sold for $1.64 million.

But the top-selling piece – $2.71 million – was a vintage Patek Philippe in rose gold.

“Our sincere thanks go to our consignors as well as the Schumacher family who entrusted us with Michael Schumacher’s exceptional property. We saw strong global participation, with a focus on America,” said Rémi Guillemin, watch specialist at the auction house.
