Marcus Rashford offers worrying update as he speaks out on ‘months and months of abuse’ after being booed by Man United fans – as supporters blame YouTuber’s rants

Marcus Rashford has delivered a worrying message to fans on social media, revealing he endured “months of abuse”, with Man United supporters placing some of the blame on YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.

The 26-year-old striker has had a difficult season on the pitch, having failed to match his 30 goals during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring eight times so far in all competitions this season.

Goldbridge runs a fan channel called The United Stand, which has 1.85 million subscribers on YouTube. He has recently posted several videos in which he criticizes the England star, notably referring to Rashford as being “about as useful as a rolling bin without wheels”.

On Thursday evening, Rashford responded to a post on X (formerly Twitter) saying the criticism he received was unfair. The message read: “The way Marcus Rashford is being treated is absolutely disgusting. It’s cruel. It’s abuse.

The United striker responded by saying he was tired of the abuse he had suffered in recent months. ‘I appreciate your help! This is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough,” Rashford said on X.

As a team, Erik ten Hag’s side have had a difficult season, crashed out of the Champions League and have now fallen to sixth place in the Premier League table, with several United stars having recently been closely scrutinized for their performances by some former pros and experts.

Last Sunday, United qualified for the FA Cup final after beating Championship side Coventry City on penalties, despite holding a three-goal lead in the match.

Goldbridge posted a video on his YouTube channel reflecting on the match in which he claimed that Ten Hag had left Rashford on the pitch for too long. He said: “Let’s leave Rashford, who is about as useful as a wheelie bin without wheels.”

In a separate video after the semi-final, he added: “Why is he (Rashford) still selected? Why is this not changing, when will it change? I have no more excuses, I don’t know what to say. He is not expected to play for Manchester United at the moment. It’s embarassing.’

He added: “What I want to know is, is it in his contract (to continue to start)?”

One supporter took to X to comment on the video, saying: “How did Mark Goldbridge manage to give United a 3-0 lead at Coventry over Rashford.”

Another seemed to reflect the same sentiment, writing: “It’s in Rashford’s contract to start every game according to Mark Goldbridge.” Statements like this are so toxic.

Rashford also recently hit back at some fans who questioned his commitment to Manchester United. Earlier this season the striker missed training after being photographed on a night out at a Belfast nightclub.

“Look, I’m not a perfect person,” Rashford wrote in an article published in the Players’ Tribune. “When I make a mistake, I will be the first to raise my hand and say I need to do better.

“But if you ever question my commitment to Man United, that’s when I need to speak up.

“It feels like someone is questioning my entire identity and everything I stand for. I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was little. My family turned down life-changing money when I was a child so I could wear this badge.

United came back from scoring a goal against Sheffield United on Wednesday to seal a 4-2 victory, with Goldbrige posting another video online criticizing Rashford’s influence in the team.

Goldbridge questioned whether United had enough shots on goal when Rashford was on the pitch.

“Do we do this when Rashford is in the team? I don’t know because it’s Sheffield United, that’s the honest answer,” he said.

“But tell me we do this regularly? We don’t, we don’t. We don’t regularly have 12 shots on target and 90 percent passing accuracy. We don’t do this regularly.

“Mark Goldbridge is leading a well-thought-out hate campaign and it must be stopped.”

The YouTuber has previously launched explosive rants online, including calling their 4-3 defeat to Chelsea an “injustice”.

Rashford also spoke out against racist abuse following England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.

He, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were subjected to online messages after missing penalties in the final.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Rashford said the messages he received made him “fall in love with football”.

Rashford was pictured walking down the steps of the nightclub with several members of his band.

The attacker was then taken away from the cameras and entered the bar.

Rashford faced criticism after he was spotted entering a Belfast nightclub late at night last month, despite attending a United training session the following morning.

Rashford has struggled to match his tally of 30 goals from last season, scoring eight times in all competitions in 2023-24.

“I may have lost my love for football a bit (after being subjected to racist abuse after Euro 2020), it’s not for a long time,” Rashford said.

“My shoulders were also down for a few months, and that’s probably when I was a little more concerned about it.

“After that, everything was fine. I was desperate to play for United again. I just love playing football and as soon as I did I wanted to play for England again.

Former Man United defender Paul Parker also attacked Goldbrige last year, claiming the YouTuber had been the cause of some “problems” at the club.

Parker told BonusCodeBets: “I don’t like what Mark Goldbridge is doing.

‘It is a problem. Everyone has to make a living, but you have to be very, very thick-skinned to make money from something you don’t like.

“He has no connection with Man United, he’s a Nottingham Forest fan. In fact, it’s an incredible skill to do that… Making money from something you don’t like.

“He attacks the club, the manager and the owners of a football club that you don’t even like. He has no inner feeling towards the club and it’s a scary but incredible feeling to have to put in so much in a club that we don’t support.
