Kristaps Porzingis latest injury: Joe Mazzulla gives new update as Boston Celtics star set to miss ‘multiple games’

The Boston Celtics are one win away from advancing in the NBA playoffs, but they were dealt a major blow heading into Game 5.

Kristaps Porzingis has been ruled out and will play no role as the Celtics look to close out the series against the Miami Heat.

The center played just 13 minutes in Game 4 before being forced off the field in the second quarter as his teammates took a 3-1 lead.

He will certainly miss the next game in Boston, but it is possible that he will stay longer…

Kristaps Porzingis’ latest injury

Porzingis suffered a right soleus strain, according to ESPN.

Soleus tightness causes pain in the calf and Achilles muscles.

This is the same injury that has kept Giannis Antetokounmpo out of the Milwaukee Bucks’ series against the Indiana Pacers thus far.

There were fears of a serious Achilles tendon injury, but he seems to have avoided it.

However, the issue is still expected to keep him sidelined for “at least several games,” as NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla provided an update on Porzingis’ condition on Wednesday, saying: “I don’t know the details of it; they’re using a lot of fancy words. But I know it will be re-evaluated next week .

“We will see how he responds to the treatment and how much he improves in the first week.

“That’s kind of the goal is to rehab him like crazy over the next week and see where we go from there.”

Porzingis will therefore miss Game 5 against the Heat and possibly more of the series if the Celtics fail to secure a 4-1 victory.

If the Celtics advance, they will likely find themselves without their center against the Cleveland Cavaliers or Orlando Magic in the conference semifinals.

After the game in which Porzingis was injured, fans found footage of the incident that likely caused it.

The Latvian appeared to roll his ankle a few plays before being forced to leave the match.

He was limping after the ankle roll and appeared to be in a lot of pain.

And now Celtics fans are hoping the pain goes away soon so they can have him back for the rest of the playoffs.
