Jared Anderson is the heir to Tyson Fury’s throne and explains why Daniel Dubois is not

Jared Anderson is one of the most exciting prospects in heavyweight boxing.

As Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk near the end of their respective careers, the debate over who will reign supreme among the next generation of heavyweight stars intensifies.

Anderson, who has barely made a mistake in the paid ranks (aside from a shaky moment against Charles Martin last year), should be high in the mix.

A number of media outlets have referred to him as the “heavyweight champion of the world in waiting”, while Fury – who has faced Anderson on several occasions – sees him as “the heir to his throne”.

But the undefeated 24-year-old (16-0) is not alone at the top of the rankings.

Anderson recognizes Tokyo gold medalist Bakhodir Jalolov and junior world champion Justis Huni as two of his toughest tests for years to come – although he thinks the former is “very basic”.

“It’s hard to say, one punch can change everyone’s career. So, it’s hard to say,” Anderson told talkSPORT.com when asked who he thinks is would be at his side in the coming years.

“I think there are some skilled fighters, there is Justis Huni, I think he is very skilled, let’s see where he goes.

“Jalolov, he’s cool. I don’t think he’s easy to understand, but once you get past that length he’s very basic.

“He’s a true-to-his-double fighter. I think it’s more about timing for most people.”

But he doesn’t expect to dine at the head table with Briton Daniel Dubois.

“I think he’ll be in the mix, but I don’t think he’s a big name. I think it’s a robot. He’s too stiff,” Anderson said of Dubois.

“I think he has a lot of work, he needs to be a lot more agile but he’s strong so we’ll see.”

“Triple D” has had a career full of ups and downs.

There was a lot of excitement around him when he turned professional at 19.

However, stoppage losses to Joe Joyce and Usyk saw his stock plummet and he now finds himself at a crossroads in his career.
