‘I’m incredibly proud of you’ – Floyd Mayweather posts heartfelt message to Rolly Romero after Oscar De La Hoya trolled him over Isaac Cruz defeat

Floyd Mayweather posted a message of support for Rolly Romero following his loss to Isaac Cruz on Saturday night.

The Mayweather Promotions fighter was trolled by Floyd’s former rival Oscar De La Hoya following the stoppage loss, which apparently prompted this response.

Romero turned down a fight with De La Hoya fighter Ryan Garcia to face Cruz.

This led to a public exchange of words between the boxer and the rival promoter.

And when that decision backfired when Cruz beat Romero, it only took a few minutes before De La Hoya mocked him.

De La Hoya first posted a video of himself and his Golden Boy co-promoter Bernard Hopkins laughing with the caption: “We just heard that Rolly got stopped by a chihuahua LMAO.”

And he didn’t stop there, posting a second video on Monday in which he said: “Rolly, you idiot, you’re knocked out. Focus on your opponent instead of focusing on me.

“All other fighters, learn from Rolly. Don’t talk shit about promoters.”

Shortly after, Mayweather posted: “@Rolliesss Keep your head up!

“I am incredibly proud of you for achieving the remarkable feat of becoming a double world champion in less than 18 fights, all without any prior amateur experience, and in just 14 years of total fighting experience.

“In this journey we call life, you will win and you will lose, that’s the game.

“But in life we all face losses, including myself. So remember, when people try to knock you down, don’t let it hold you back.

“Get up, stay true to yourself, and recognize all that you have accomplished.”

On Monday evening, Romero himself posted: “I want to congratulate Pitbull on his great fight and achieving his dream of becoming world champion.

Oscar De La Hoya says he would have beaten Canelo Alvarez ‘easily’ with Floyd Mayweather Sr by his side to train him

“Every time I step between the ropes I know I am risking my life and health and that in a sport of winners and losers there can only be one of two outcomes when the battle is over.

“I came into this fight ready to show the world my heart and my skills and I felt like I showed it Saturday night.

“I’ve never been knocked down, let alone knocked out, and the referee had to save me from myself because I’m not afraid, I had balls of steel and I wanted to keep fighting and doing the show until the end.

“When you lose a fight, usually the support starts to dry up and people stop calling you, but after Saturday night, I received so much love and support from so many different places, it felt like a huge difference in my ability to cope with and accept this defeat.

“Thank you to Amazon Prime, Premier Boxing Champions. My team and all my sponsors.

“And you, the fans, for putting all your support behind me.

“I promise I will come back better and stronger than ever to prove to myself and the naysayers that I belong at the highest level of the sport with the best of them.”
