I’m in my 40s and I can’t stop wearing these Citizens of Humanity jeans

When baggy jeans first saw a major resurgence in 2023, I refused to capitalize on the trend. For almost 15 years, I’ve been a skinny jean enthusiast, alternating between several of my favorite Rag & Bone Nina pairs. However, I recently decided to wander to the wide leg side and try out a pair of boyfriend style jeans worn by Rihanna’s Citizens of Humanity Ayla, and now I can’t stop wearing them.

When I first tried cool-girl jeans, I was pleasantly surprised at how well such a loose-fitting style could flatter my figure. The silhouette, a narrow waist that flows into a wider, slightly tapered leg at the bottom, actually offers a slender effect. Mid-rise with button fly, waist falls just below the navel. The fabric, a stiff and soft denim, ensures that the relaxed fit doesn’t look lazy or sloppy, but intentionally relaxed. Although they are intended to be worn with cuffs, the non-nailed leg can also be folded over to form a straight leg.

I wear my Ayla Citizens of Humanity jeans with everything from strappy sandals and heels to Nike Air Jordans and Adidas Stan Smiths. They look great with button-down shirts, tees, and bodysuits tucked into button-down shirts, and you can’t go wrong with showing a hint of your belly in a crop top. Despite my love for skinny jeans, wide-leg pants have definitely converted me to the retro baggy jean look for the foreseeable future; it’s truly one of the most versatile denim styles in my wardrobe.
