I’m a Man United fan but would take Arsenal beating us in May, all Red Devils fans will agree

talkSPORT presenter and Manchester United fan Andy Goldstein has insisted he would happily watch his side lose to Arsenal in May.

United take on Arsenal in the penultimate match of the Premier League season at Old Trafford in what could be a seismic clash in the title race with the Gunners taking on Liverpool and Manchester City for the top prize.

With just three points separating the top three, any points lost could be hugely significant, with United also facing Liverpool in the final nine games of the season.

But talkSPORT’s Goldstein, who is a huge Red Devils fan, insisted he would rather see his side taste defeat against Arsenal if it meant Liverpool or City failing to win the league.

Speaking alongside a stunned Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT Drive on Tuesday afternoon, Goldstein said: “One of the games Arsenal played in their showdown, the penultimate game, was in Manchester United.

“As a United fan, I hope we lose. Because I don’t want City or Liverpool to win the title.”

Agbonlahor was shocked and replied: “But what about that rivalry with Arsenal all those years ago?”

Goldstein bluntly said, “Don’t worry about it.

“If Liverpool win the title, I will never hear the end of it because Liverpool won the title. Last year, Klopp will never hear the end of it, and they also match United’s 20 league titles.

Agbonlahor seemed convinced and said: “I also think Man City is not the one people want because it will be the first time in a row.”

Speaking about the fact that no team has won the Premier League more than three times in a row, Goldstein said: “Yes, I don’t want that.

“We’ve made it three in a row twice, but no one has ever made it four.”

Jeff Stelling calls Manchester City’s draw with Arsenal ‘worst games of the season’ and condemns Gunners for lack of courage.

Asked if his opinion was shared by United fans, Goldstein insisted: “Yes.

“There is not a single United fan who would want to beat Arsenal for Liverpool and City to win (the Premier League).”

Whether United fans want their club to lose to Arsenal or not, the Red Devils will have a huge say in who wins the title this season.

With Arsenal and Liverpool coming up, the only club they are not prepared to face is City, who have taken six points from them this season with wins both home and away.

Arsenal beat them at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season while Liverpool were only able to secure a draw at Anfield in December.

With Old Trafford hosting both reverse fixtures, Erik ten Hag will be desperate for victory no matter what happens above him in the table.

The Dutchman has already been under pressure this season and insisted his side are still in the fight for a top-four place despite being 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

A Europa League place could be the best United can realistically achieve with nine games remaining and are four points clear of seventh-placed West Ham.
