Graeme Souness shares fears for Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho and gives Marcus Rashford warning

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has warned Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho about the pitfalls of success.

Garnacho has been elevated to one of Erik ten Hag’s key players this season – and even scored one of the greatest goals in Premier League history this season.

He was rewarded last year with a contract believed to be worth more than £50,000 a week.

The 19-year-old has been a rare bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign.

This includes their FA Cup semi-final collapse at Wembley on Sunday against Coventry, before going through on penalties.

The Red Devils led 3-0 with 20 minutes remaining before conceding three to send the match into extra time, where the Sky Blues scored in the last minute only for VAR to rule it out.

And speaking on the White & Jordan Show on talkSPORT, Souness singled out Garnacho and used one of his teammates as a warning about letting success change your mindset.

“Garnacho, for me, is an exceptionally talented young man but I worry about him, call myself old-fashioned or a dinosaur,” the Liverpool legend said on air.

“He had two earrings on in the warm-up on the field and he’s a young kid who’s just learning the game.

“It’s a very old thing. It’s not new at Man United.

“Man United has always been the most glamorous club in this country, it’s a bit like Bayern Munich in Germany, they’re called FC Hollywood.

“I think you could use the same term to talk about Man United, they have too much, too soon at Manchester United, that’s my point of view.

“I have been a player and manager of English football for a very long time.

“When we were the dominant team at Liverpool, they were even bigger stars than us.

“They get so much attention, the Man United players, and I think it’s to their detriment. Especially in the modern game with the kind of accolades these boys get.

Graeme Souness believes Erik ten Hag will still be sacked by Manchester United, even if they beat rivals Manchester City to win the FA Cup

“They have way too much, too soon, I think (Marcus) Rashford is a good example of that at 25.

“He should be just approaching his prime, it looks like his prime years are over.”

Garnacho has been a key player under Erik ten Hag this season after breaking into the first team last year.

The 19-year-old has made 43 appearances for the Red Devils so far this campaign with nine goals and four assists in all competitions.

However, he found himself in a sticky situation with Ten Hag, after “liking” social media posts criticizing his manager.

However, the Argentine apologized for his actions and the matter has since been resolved.

Garnacho was not at fault in the Wembley semi-final collapse, however, having been substituted after 66 minutes with the score 3-0 against Manchester United.
