Didier Deschamps’ side are expected to go far at the European Championship after winning their opening match against Austria which saw the Blues’ prominent badge appear.

Their latest kit includes a distinctive badge with a rooster and it has been seen on their national jersey for years.

Why does France have a rooster as its badge?

The rooster that appears on the French football jersey is called the Coq Gaulois.

It is a symbol which takes its origin from the ancient Latin name of France which is Gaul.

People would consider this a joke against the French people, but it would eventually stick and the kings of France would adopt the rooster as a symbol of courage and bravery.

Its use then became even more widespread after the French Revolution.

It was seen as a symbol of the people who founded the country, and as Republicans rejected a royalist narrative preferring France’s true roots, the rooster became a symbol representing the country’s origins.

During the First World War, it was used as a symbol of France’s resistance and bravery on the battlefields.

Its growing popularity has allowed it to remain popular ever since and the rooster has remained a symbol of modern France.

It is now seen on every football and rugby jersey in the country and also appears on postage stamps, war memorials and logos.
