After discussing the controversy in Thursday’s episode of ViewGoldberg then defended Butker’s right to free speech, even though she doesn’t share the same beliefs and perspectives.
“I like it when people say what they have to say,” the EGOT winner said. “He’s at a Catholic college, he’s a devout Catholic. These are his beliefs and they are welcome to him. I don’t have to believe them, I don’t have to accept them, the ladies who were sitting in that audience don’t have to accept them.
She continued: “The same way we want respect when Colin Kaepernick takes a knee, we want to give respect to people whose ideas are different from ours because the man who says he wants to be president, You-Know-Who, he said, The best way to act is to take away people’s right to say what they feel. We don’t want to be that. We don’t want to be those people.
While View Co-host Sara Haines also disagreed with Butker’s comments. She said she didn’t think people should be “arrested or fired” for their opinions, referring to calls to remove the Chiefs player from the team.
However, Haines disagrees with Goldberg’s comparison to Kaepernick, the former football star who sparked controversy in 2016 among conservatives after refusing to stand during the national anthem at Texas games. NFL to protest police brutality in the United States.

“He chose to target the LGBTQ community. Sunny Hostin also said she felt Butker’s comments were “problematic,” particularly toward the LGBTQ community. “He said it was sinful behavior,” Hostin said. “When the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, has done more for the LGBTQ community than any other in Catholic history.”
While Butker also took aim at President Joe Biden’s policies because he is also Catholic, Hostin noted that Biden “understands that there is a difference between church and state.”
After hearing the other panelists’ thoughts, Goldberg continued to emphasize that Butker “has the right to say what he says.” She added: “When you say to someone, ‘I don’t like what you said, and so I’m going to make you take your job away because you don’t agree with me,’ to me , it is a problem. This happens to us all the time.
Following the backlash online, the NFL released a statement regarding Butker’s speech, noting that it was about his “personal capacity.”
“His views are not those of the NFL as an organization,” Jonathan Beane, NFL senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, said in a statement. “The NFL is steadfast in its commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
