West Ham request Brazilian’s return amid aim of transfer U-turn

West Ham’s move for Luis Guilherme is back, talkSPORT understands.

It was reported earlier on Monday that the Hammers’ pursuit of midfielder Guilherme was ending despite the technical director’s trip to Brazil to try to sign 18-year-old defender and defender Fabricio Bruno.

However, it appears the trip to South America was not in vain as Guilherme, who plies his trade with Brazilian club Palmeiras, is set to turn around and complete his move to east London.

talkSPORT understands a €25m deal and €5m worth of add-ons are close to being agreed.

The 18-year-old only made his senior debut in March 2023, but has become a key player in the Champions League where he is part of a formidable attack featuring Real Madrid-bound Endrick Madrid.

Their move for Bruno appears unlikely, although West Ham are in advanced talks with Brazilian side Flamengo in their attempt to sign defender Bruno for £12.5 million.

Bruno has become one of Brazil’s best centre-backs after winning the Copa Libertadores in 2022, earning the 28-year-old his international debut against England at Wembley earlier this year.

It was understood that owner David Sullivan was close to pulling the plug on both transfers, convinced the club was unwilling to pay the wages demanded by the duo.

Despite the disappointment regarding Bruno, all signs still point to a busy summer at West Ham.

New manager Julen Lopetegui is keen to strengthen his squad, with up to four signings potentially coming to the club.

It is understood that the Spaniard wants to bring in two defenders, with a wide striker also seen as a priority.

Meanwhile, there could be a handful of notable departures, with Danny Ings linked with a return to Southampton.

And it remains to be seen whether the Saints will look to turn Flynn Downes’ loan spell at St Mary’s into a permanent stay following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
