Manchester United players ‘not at the races’ and club advised which four new signings will change mentality
Manchester United players have been criticized for not always giving their all.
This comes from former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders, who also named four stars the Premier League giants should sign to improve their effort levels.
United’s bid for a top-four finish took a huge blow when they drew 1-1 with Brentford, with Mason Mount’s stoppage-time goal canceled out by Kristoffer Ajer moments later.
The Bees dominated the match and many argue they should have won, with their northern opposition losing even more points.
Many United players have been criticized for their poor performances this season and Saturday’s game was no exception, with Saunders insisting some are not trying hard.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “The least you’d expect is if you give me your all every week, turn up and take care of yourself during the week, you’re giving yourself every chance possible to play well on Saturday.
“(As manager) I choose you and you give me everything and I see that you want to win, it’s impossible to have a bad game for me, that’s what I told the players.
“I look at some of these Man United players who are still there, I mean, you bring in Harry Maguire, a replacement. He tried to sell him six times, he tried to sell (Aaron) Wan-Bissaka, the the players know it, they should have cleared the decks a long time ago.
“You still have players on your team who don’t compete every week, some days they try, other days they don’t.”
Saunders then revealed the Brentford and Brighton players he thinks United should consider moves for, with both teams taking points from the Ten Hag side this season.
He added: “We have to sort things out. If the generals and colonels can’t do things correctly, the soldiers can’t win the war. Upstairs, it’s not good, I hope Jim Ratcliffe fixes the problem and they make the right decision.
“Here I can make four good decisions for you now because we have to clear the decks, they need a new team. Sign (Ivan) Toney, (Bryan) Mbeumo, (Kaoru) Mitoma and Lewis Dunk.
“Sign them four, and there you have it, there are four players coming every week. Ivan Toney, Mbeumo, Mitoma and Dunk.
“By the way, watching that game against Brentford the other day, if you just swap the shirts, the Brentford players put on the Man United shirts, Brentford are a much better team than Man United, how is that possible?”
While United are certainly not out of the top four, their draw at Brentford leaves them 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
Massive matches against Chelsea and Liverpool are set to take place this week, with Arsenal their penultimate opponents of the season.
United also have an FA Cup semi-final to play against Coventry City, but Saunders clearly believes work needs to be done within the squad.
