Violet Affleck, the daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, is making her voice heard.
The 18-year-old spoke out against the mask ban in an impassioned speech at a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.
While advocating for the availability of masks, free, high-quality COVID-19 testing, and “mandating mask wearing in county medical facilities,” Violet revealed that she “contracted a post-viral illness in 2019.”
“I’m doing well now, but I’ve seen with my own eyes that medicine doesn’t always have an answer to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted this more clearly,” the high school graduate said.
“One in ten infections leads to long COVID, a devastating neurological (and) cardiovascular disease that can rob people of the ability to work, move, see and even think,” she continued, before concluding with a “request” to “oppose the ban on wearing masks for any reason.”
Affleck and Garner’s eldest child explained: “They’re not making us safer, they’re making vulnerable members of our community less safe and making everyone less able to participate together in the life of Los Angeles.”
Violet, who is often photographed wearing a face mask when out with her parents, wore a face mask and a floral dress during her speech at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration.
While some social media users criticized the teenager’s testimony, others called her an “incredible leader and role model.”
One person wrote: “I show this to my 7 and 9 year old daughters as a great example of a smart, thoughtful, confident young woman 1) doing what she knows is right, even in the face of massive social pressure to give in 2) using her voice and privilege for the greater good.”
Another noted that it was “extremely impressive how much she managed to do in… one minute.”
Garner, 52, has publicly praised Violet for being “totally in control” of her future, telling Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos in November 2023 that she was acting “like a champion” as she neared her high school graduation.
“She has initiative,” the tearful actress told viewers of “Live with Kelly and Mark.” “And I’m proud of her no matter what.”
The “13, Going on 30” star was “a wreck” for a “whole month” before the teen’s graduation ceremony in May.
She posted photos of herself crying on Instagram, writing: “Tell me you have a graduate without telling me you have a graduate. (God bless us).”
The Alias alum and Ben, who are also parents to Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, celebrated their graduation in June with a party.
Even Jennifer Lopez attended the party – albeit briefly – despite her and Ben’s impending divorce.
While Violet’s college plans have not been confirmed, she hinted that she would be a future student at Yale University when she posed in a revealing sweatshirt for a recent photo.
Before heading to school in Connecticut, Violet spent the summer hanging out with Lopez and her parents.
