Utah teen Dylan Rounds’ presumed skeletal remains found as James Brenner faces murder charge

The suspected skeletal remains of a 19-year-old farmer who went missing over Memorial Day weekend in 2022 were discovered Tuesday in a remote area of Utah.

Dylan Rounds was allegedly murdered by his neighbor James Brenner, 60, who was squatting on the land next to the teen’s property in Lucin, Utah, according to East Idaho News.

“Our hearts go out to the family of Dylan Rounds,” Box Elder County police said in a statement.

“We offer our deepest condolences for the loss of their family member. We understand that the pain of their loss is immeasurable and we wish to express our deepest condolences to them. We hope they can find peace in the future.

The Utah Medical Examiner’s Office has the skeletal remains for “confirmation of identity.”

Brenner was charged with murder and abuse or desecration of a body in connection with the March 2023 killing; nine months after Rounds’ disappearance.

Brenner led police to the remote area as part of a plea deal, according to East Idaho News

“We thank everyone for their support and love,” Rounds’ mother, Candice Cooley, told the outlet. “We are grateful to now have Dylan’s body and to be able to bring him home as we continue our fight for justice.”
