U.S. News and World Report develops its annual rankings of nearly 25,000 high schools across the country in partnership with a North Carolina-based nonprofit research firm, RTI International. Private schools were examined separately – their rankings can be viewed here.

Researchers then assign weighted scores to schools based on six factors, including: graduation rates, statewide standardized test scores, and college-level or advanced placement exam scores . Rankings were then assigned in descending order based on this overall score.
