US-China trade war escalates: China imposes 43% tariffs on widely used US chemicals

ICYMI published a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Friday reporting a new tax on American products.

China hit propionic acid imports from the United States with a 43.5% levy. The chemical is widely used in the fields of food and feed, pesticides and medicine.

The Commerce Ministry cited an investigation finding that China’s domestic propionic acid industry had been “materially damaged.”

According to previous data, on Thursday, China’s Ministry of Commerce said that it firmly opposes the United States’ increase in tariffs and will take all necessary measures to protect its rights and interests.
