Unai Emery celebrates Aston Villa reaching the Champions League – but eagle-eyed fans notice Ollie Watkins’ reaction

Unai Emery reacted savagely after Aston Villa’s Champions League qualification was assured – but the same can’t be said for Ollie Watkins.

The Villans will take part in Europe’s premier football competition next season for the first time since 1983.

Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City confirmed the Midlands side’s fourth place heading into the final weekend of the season.

And Emery was all Villa fans after the full-time whistle in north London as he raised both hands in the air alongside chairman of football operations Monchi, as Matty Cash and Diego Carlos beamed joy behind him.

Although Watkins, who was named Villa’s Player of the Season after scoring 27 goals in all competitions, looked dejected.

Villa fans were quick to notice his unexpected reaction, with many highlighting the fact that he is an Arsenal fan.

While Villa benefited from City’s victory, the Gunners’ title aspirations were significantly reduced.

City leapfrogged Mikel Arteta’s men at the top of the table, needing just a win over West Ham to seal a historic fourth consecutive title.

A photo of Emery’s celebration was shared on X by Villa, leading one user to say: “Ollie Watkins better cheer up mate.”

Another message: “What’s wrong with Watkins hahaha. The inner Arsenal fan is coming.”

A third added: “Watkins doesn’t seem impressed. »

This fan then commented: “Watkins isn’t celebrating because he supports Arsenal, but look at Emery. Jheezus.”

And one Villa supporter simply said: “Compete Oliver. »

To which one user replied: “He remembers he’s an Arsenal fan.”

And one then joked: “Ollie is over the moon.” »
