Ubisoft Denounces Star Wars Outlaws Development Delay Due to Numerous Graphics Complaints: “The Level of Quality of the World and Experience is Really High”

Following a wave of negative feedback regarding Star Wars Outlaws’ graphics, Ubisoft has said it will not delay the open-world game and is confident that “people will love it.”

Earlier this month, IGN revealed 10 minutes of unreleased gameplay for Star Wars Outlaws, which you can see in the video below. The video wasn’t well-received, with 13,000 dislikes to 8,000 likes, and responses in the comments made reference to technical elements of Ubisoft’s new game, such as dropped frames, stuttering, and rippling issues along sand dunes.

“So we’re going to ignore the San Andreas-style frame drops and explosions?” read one comment below the video, while another added, “Why are the graphics so bad, and the particle effect on the explosion and Kay’s face?” referring to Kay Vess, the protagonist of Star Wars Outlaws. There wasn’t much love for the look of Star Wars Outlaws, at least.

Those negative comments were enough to catch the attention of a Bank of America analyst, who asked Ubisoft management during a conference call earlier this week whether the company would consider delaying the game’s release because of the backlash. “The game has gone gold, so the date is definitely confirmed for August 30,” Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet said.

“We’ll soon see more very high-quality, multi-hour content that really shows the depths of the open world that is a key part of the promise of enjoying the exploration of the galaxy with multiple planets, so that should bode well for the game in terms of delivering high-quality content,” added Ubisoft’s CFO.

Ubisoft is also confident about the final game’s graphics. “As we’ve said for Star Wars, the level of quality of the universe and the experience is really high,” added Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “We’re really leveraging our engine and I think people are going to love it,” Guillemot continued.

From the Nix tattoo on Kay’s wrist to ND-5’s jacket, the Star Wars Outlaws characters were designed to be “very authentic” but also “very new.”
