Apple iPhone 16 Pro will feature a record-breaking design, according to leaks

The next iPhones will have a different look when released in September, it seems. From different screens on some models to a new strategy for its next-generation processors, more advanced camera lenses and a new thermal design to prevent overheating, a lot will change. And now, a leak reveals that the bezels are going to be even thinner, becoming the narrowest in the world.

Updated June 4. This article was first published on June 3, 2024.

And the leaker has now posted images which claim to show how much thinner the glasses will appear. In a new article on But the dynamic island should be reduced.”

And the images show what is supposed to be an iPhone 15 Pro and an iPhone 16 Pro side by side. Even if you don’t imagine that a small reduction in frame size would make a big difference, you will notice how much narrower the 16 Pro mockup looks.

Of course, it’s still true that if you put the iPhone in a case, as so many people do, if there is a front lip on the case, that subtle change in the frame can be covered anyway . But that’s perhaps not the point: making an iPhone even better looking than last year’s model is a noble ambition worth undertaking.

You can bet that if the images really mean the next iPhone will have the thinnest bezels of any smartphone, it will feature in Apple’s marketing of the handset. Ice Universe, in another article on X, also published four different images, showing different glasses. It’s hard to argue that thinner people aren’t more beautiful.

As for shrinking bezels on an iPhone, is that even possible, you might ask? Current models already have very thin blank areas around the screen itself.

But, in an article on X, Ice Universe, a leaker with a solid track record, revealed that he had heard that thinner glasses were on the way. The post says: “My friend confirmed that the iPhone 16 Pro will shrink the bezel, surpassing the Galaxy S24 to become the world’s narrowest bezel mobile phone, which seems to be very close to the dream shape.”

As mentioned by Ice Universe, Samsung currently holds the record for the thinnest bezels, but not for long it seems.

The article only mentions the iPhone 16 Pro, but it seems very likely that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will also see a thinner bezel. We will see.

This all lines up with a previous report that Apple was using Border Reduction Structure technology to achieve a thinner border, which was last rumored as Apple was said to have found that this technology created problems in terms of performance. Indeed, as 9to5Mac reports, BRS affects construction: “Wiring and circuitry near the edge of the panel must be bent downward to achieve this. This would have caused some manufacturing issues during the production ramp.

It’s hard to imagine how the bezels can get much thinner and, remember, you still want to be able to hold the phone without the touchscreen accidentally activating. But Apple will be happy to claim the “world’s narrowest” crown from Samsung.

However, every little gesture counts. If the new Pro models should, as expected, have larger screens than before (6.3 inches and 6.7 inches for the Pro and Pro Max respectively), then thinner bezels could make them easier to fit by hand.

Not everyone is concerned about these things and one person immediately told Ice Universe, “I will never understand this need. Never.” To which the leaker replied: “You don’t care about the frame, but if I give you a design of the Galaxy A54, you definitely won’t like it for the first time.”

So here we are.
