The final major tournament of what has already been a thrilling 2024 golf season is underway with The Open Championship in its 152nd edition this week at Royal Troon. The world’s oldest golf tournament returns to Troon for the first time in eight years with the Claret Jug and a R&A record handbag The award is expected to be presented on site on Sunday for the 10th time.

All eyes were on Rory McIlroy as the tournament opened, with the Northern Irishman playing some of the best golf of his career. While he didn’t win the Scottish Open last week (as he did a year ago coming into the Open), he was coming off a heartbreaking loss at the US Open that some thought would give him the motivation he needed to end a decade-long major drought. Instead, McIlroy – and the man who beat him at the US Open, Bryson DeChambeau – ejected in round 1with an average of 6 out of 10 between them. Tiger Woods was even worsewho posted a bogey-riddled 79 at Royal Troon.

Instead, a surprising leader after 18 holes emerged in Daniel Brown, who has missed six consecutive cuts on the DP World Tour, one shot ahead of Shane Lowry. The duo went two of three rounds bogey-free on Thursday, but they aren’t alone atop the leaderboard, as notable names like Justin Thomas, Justin Rose and Brooks Koepka are all firmly in contention. Right next to them, Scottie Scheffler is looking to cap off another extraordinary season; the Masters champion entered as the favorite after already winning six times (and $28 million) on the PGA Tour this season.

Attending The Open Championship is undoubtedly a memorable experience, but just being able to watch golf on one of the game’s biggest stages each year is an incredible treat. CBSSports.com is excited to bring you comprehensive coverage of The Open all week long.

Enough about that. Here’s how you can watch as much of the Open as possible between now and Sunday. Don’t forget to follow CBS Sports for live coverage of the Open Championship throughout the final major of the year.
