Trump begins another fight with judge while awaiting contempt ruling

Donald Trump he just can’t help it.

Moments after a contentious hearing on whether Trump should be held in contempt for violating his silence order, the former president used his favorite social media platform to criticize the judge who cares about his fate.

“VERY CONFLICT, TO PUT IT LESS, JUDGE JUAN MERCHAN, TAKEN MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. EVERYONE IS ALLOWED TO SPEAK AND LIE ABOUT ME, BUT I’M NOT ALLOWED TO DEFEND MYSELF,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.

“THIS IS A KANGAROO COURT, AND THE JUDGE SHOULD RECUSE HIMSELF!” »

Trump’s silence order prohibits him from attacking court staff, jurors, witnesses and their families. On Tuesday, prosecutors argued that Trump should be fined $1,000 per violation, noting that he allegedly violated the order at least 10 times.

“The defendant violated this order several times and did not stop,” prosecutor Christopher Conroy said.

Conroy cited Trump’s attacks on Truth Social, where he called star witnesses Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels “sleazy bastards.”

Defense attorney Todd Blanche argued that Trump was “extremely frustrated” by what he considers an unfair prosecution and that he was not trying to intimidate witnesses or jurors during his trial.

He has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of allegedly conspiring to conceal a secret payment of $130,000 to Daniels to hide their alleged affair during the 2016 presidential election.
