Tottenham fans celebrate Harry Kane and Eric Dier knocking out Arsenal – but it could come back to bite them

Tottenham fans were quick to rejoice at their former players Harry Kane and Eric Dier’s victory over bitter rivals Arsenal.

The former Spurs duo were part of the Bayern Munich team that beat the Gunners 1-0 in their Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Bayern’s victory secured their progression to the semi-finals and sent Arsenal packing with a whimper amid a subdued performance.

After scoring 280 goals for Spurs, Kane joined the German giants last summer and has maintained his incredible form ever since.

Dier followed suit a few months later with a loan deal until the end of the season, with the two securing a huge victory at the expense of Arsenal.

And Spurs fans on social media made sure to show their appreciation as one on X said: “Dier and Kane. Job well done.”

“Kane and Dier, you made us proud,” added a second amid their former players’ latest achievement on the big stage.

A happy third with smiling, clapping and laughing emojis also said: “Special Agents Kane and Dier did the trick.”

“KANE AND DIER, LEGENDS,” added a delighted fourth as Spurs fans rejoiced over Arsenal’s exit from the pinnacle of European football.

However, the Gunners’ defeat may not be as pleasing as it was for their north London rivals, amid the race for next season’s Champions League.

Dier also played a key role as the former Spurs duo once again defeated their rivals.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League, with clubs finishing in the top four qualifying for the showcase tournament.

The Bundesliga also has the same format, with the English and German top divisions potentially slated for a fifth qualifying spot.

Former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka smiles as he asks a question about how to stop Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane winning the title.

With next season’s revamped Champions League featuring additional teams, UEFA’s coefficient rankings could see either country move up to fifth place.

England were behind Germany before kick-off on Wednesday night, so an Arsenal victory could have swung the race in the Premier League’s favour.

But Bayern’s victory and progression to the semi-finals means it could be the Bundesliga who take the place as each victory in Europe, regardless of competition, equates to two coefficient points.

As of Wednesday morning, Italy led with 18,428 and Germany was second with 17,214 for this season, with England on 16,750.

However, the Premier League could receive another boost if West Ham beat Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final, live on talkSPORT.
