Three pedestrians killed in separate San Diego County crashes identified

Authorities have publicly identified three people who were fatally injured in crashes that occurred over a three-day period while driving through various neighborhoods in San Diego County.

The first of three pedestrian deaths occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday, when a northbound Ford F-550 pickup truck veered onto Pine Valley Boulevard near Rocky Pass and struck Mary Stewart, 61, of Pine Valley, according to the medical examiner’s office and California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics took Stewart to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where she was pronounced dead.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. the next day, an eastbound vehicle struck Armando Gutierrez, 21, of Escondido as he crossed Oceanside Boulevard, just west of College Boulevard, with friends in Oceanside, officials said. An ambulance crew took Gutierrez to Tri-City Medical Center, where he died.

About 10:55 p.m. Monday, Darryle Lawler, 63, was crossing State Route 94 near Old Campo Road in Spring Valley when an Audi sedan traveling east struck him, according to the medical examiner.

Following the fatal impact, the driver stopped and let out a passenger, who called 911 to report what happened as the motorist fled, authorities said. Lawler died at the scene.
