Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich after Saturday’s final Bundesliga match of the season at Hoffenheim.

Tuchel revealed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that he had not reached an agreement to extend his stay at the club, which missed out on the national title for the first time in more than a decade.

The 50-year-old’s announcement will inevitably fuel speculation over a possible move to Manchester United, with head coach Erik ten Hag’s future still uncertain.

“This is my last press conference at (Bayern’s training ground) Sabener Strasse,” he told reporters.

“There were discussions, but we did not reach an agreement, so the February decision still stands.

“The feedback from recent weeks formed the basis of our discussion. But we could not reach an agreement. I won’t name the reasons.

“I’m a little sad because I don’t like leaving teams and staff. There are 60, 70 people here that you see every day.

“And also the underground car park stewards and the kitchen guys. There is a bond that develops over time. You work closely together for hours every day. It’s always difficult.

Tuchel joined Bayern in March last year following his departure from Chelsea, but could not prevent his side’s long domestic reign ending with the resurgence of Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern were also knocked out in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals by Real Madrid earlier this month and must avoid defeat at Hoffenheim to ensure they do not fall to third place in the Bundesliga final table.
