Team USA wins first Olympic medal thanks to Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook in Paris

The Americans won their first medal of the Paris Olympics in the synchronized three-meter springboard event.

Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook won silver in the event – the United States’ first medal at the Games – with a score of 314.64 points.

They finished behind the Chinese team of Yani Chang and Yiwen Chen and just ahead of Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen.

Bacon and Cook both missed the Olympics when they were held in Tokyo in 2021, but Cook last competed in the 3-meter springboard at the Rio Olympics in 2016. She finished 13th in the event.

Bacon and Cook are both world-renowned divers with numerous medals. Bacon won gold in the 1-meter springboard at the 2019 World Championships.

Both divers are internationally recognized and have won numerous medals. Bacon won gold at the 2019 World Championships in the 1-meter springboard.

Chang and Chen dominated the event with a score of 337.68 points, enough for each of them to win their first Olympic medal of their career.

The duo has multiple gold medals at world championship level.

Harper and Mew Jensen won bronze, Britain’s first medal of the Games – and the first women’s diving medal for the British team in 64 years.

It looked as though the duo had lost heading into the final round as Australia needed just 58.68 to overtake them. But a slip from Annabelle Smith saw the Australians score 48.60.
