Brighton players appear to aim sly dig at Manchester United after Brentford stalemate

Lewis Dunk and Adam Lallana clearly paid attention to a damning statistic from Brentford’s draw against Manchester United.

Brighton found themselves in a 0-0 stalemate with the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday, with the visitors creating many more chances on a frustrating evening for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

But Brentford’s tally of five shots compared to Brighton’s 24 clearly stood out to the Seagulls thanks to a key stat from their weekend clash against Manchester United – or at least that’s what their interviews suggest post-match.

Despite drawing 1-1 against the Bees in the end after some dramatic stoppages in play, Erik ten Hag’s side conceded a huge 31 shots in the clash – the most of any Premier League team this season.

Now, Brighton’s players appear to be aiming for a rather thinly veiled attack on the Red Devils after eliminating the Bees and allowing them only a handful of chances.

“I thought defensively we were great,” Dunk said after the game. “I don’t think I really remember a shot on target that they had.

“They had 30 shots last game, so yeah, I thought we defended great tonight.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool star Lallana had also noted the stat from the Bees’ previous match.

“We were disappointed with that point,” he said, reflecting on the game.

“We saw how dominant Brentford were the other night with 30 shots on goal, but we dominated this game, we just lacked the killer instinct.”

Defender Dunk was clearly pleased with the way his side nullified Brentford after their number of chances this weekend.

Brentford finally managed two shots on target on Wednesday evening, compared to six for Brighton.

Man United will hope not to give Chelsea 31 shots when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Thursday, live and exclusively on talkSPORT 2.
