Statistics New Zealand admits error in publishing inflation data

Eamonn already brought some color to this when it was released back in the day:

“Newswires originally reported the q/q ratio at +6.8% q/q. Which is way beyond the realm of probable. I mean, it would be a multi-billion sigma event or something. So, yes, you may have seen +6.8% reported via various sources that, uh, didn’t really think social media (and other media!) had its dangers.

But now we see Statistics New Zealand apologizing for the mistake:

“This error is the responsibility of Stats NZ, there is no fault of the communications agencies. We apologize to all customers affected. The issue was caused by human error and Stats NZ is reviewing its processes to ensure ‘ensure this doesn’t happen again.’
