Standoff with possibly armed suspect shuts down I-80 in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD – Interstate 80 was closed Friday evening in Fairfield as authorities worked to arrest a possibly armed suspect, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Both directions of the highway were closed at the Green Valley Road-Interstate 680 interchange.
“We are actively working to resolve this incident and will reopen the lanes as soon as possible,” the CHP Solano Regional Office said in a social media post.
The westbound lanes of I-80, as well as the transition from northbound I-680 to eastbound and westbound I-80, reopened around 6:45 p.m., the CHP said. Eastbound lanes remained closed.
The highway standoff followed a report of a shooting near Windsor around 11 a.m., NBC Bay Area reported. A woman’s SUV was hit by a bullet, but she was not injured.
The suspect walked away from officers after being found at a Rohnert Park shopping center, but eventually hit a spike strip and stopped on I-80, the news station reported.
