Rishi Sunak was branded a ‘little loser’ during Prime Minister’s Questions today, but how does the Prime Minister actually measure up to other world leaders?
Although Mr Sunak, at just 5ft 6in, is significantly shorter than the average Briton’s height, which is around 5ft 10in, when compared to other world leaders he stands closer to the average.
Interestingly, a significant proportion of world leaders are quite short, with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian warlord Volodymyr Zelensky matching the height of Mr Sunak, who is just 1.70 meters tall.
While Sir Winston Churchill and Valdimir Putin are only an inch taller and his predecessors Liz Truss and Napoleon Bonaparte are an inch shorter.

Mr Sunak’s height is matched by that of French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian warlord Volodymyr Zelensky, who are just 1.70 meters tall.
Earlier today, the Labor Party deputy leader lashed out as she faced ridicule from Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden and other Conservative MPs in the House of Commons as they introduced themselves, while Mr Sunak was in Berlin to discuss security, trade and illegal migration with Chancellor Olaf.
Referring to Mr Sunak’s resignation in 2022, seen as having hastened the end of Boris Johnson’s premiership, she said the Conservatives had swapped “their biggest electoral winner for a minor loser”.
But Mr Sunak’s predecessor as prime minister, Liz Truss, is only around 1.70m tall, while his former boss Boris Johnson is just under 1.80m.
Even World War II hero Sir Winston Churchill was shorter than Mr Sunak, standing just 5ft 1in, the same height as Margaret Thatcher.
The current shortest European leader is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is said to be around 1.70 meters tall.
Russian despot Vladimir Putin is around 5 feet 7 inches tall, while North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is only 5 feet 2 inches tall.
However, not all world leaders are cursed with small genes. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is 1.80 meters tall.
Closely followed by Mark Rutte, the 6-foot-3 Prime Minister of the Netherlands and Justin Trudeau who is 6-foot-1. And US President Biden is also content to get rid of the 6-foot club.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is only 1.50 meters tall, making him even shorter than Mr Sunak.
US President Joe Biden is 6 feet tall, while Canadian Justin Trudeau is 6 feet 1 inches tall.
However, Mr Sunak has come up with some clever visual tricks to make it appear bigger in photographs. For example, when he and his ministerial team were photographed at the top of the Downing Street stairs with his taller ministers below him, making them appear smaller.
In 2021, a senior MP claimed that then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson was deliberately appointing top ministers to annoy the image-conscious Mr Sunak.
The MP said Mr Johnson – who is only 5ft 8in – deliberately played on Rishi Sunak’s “insecurity” about his height and made the then chancellor appear shorter in photographs.
However, Mr Sunak has come up with some clever visual tricks to make it appear bigger in photographs.
For example, when he is pictured with his ministerial team in 2021 at the top of the Downing Street stairs with his taller ministers below him, making them appear smaller.
Or by wearing cropped trouser hems in his £1,300 tailored suits, which can make him look taller.
