Sébastien Aho

Aho’s goal with 17:45 to play tied the game and set up the game-winner – which was scored on the next faceoff – cementing a total and complete collapse by the Islanders before assisting Jake’s empty net Guentzel.

Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov (40) catches the shot from Sebastian Aho (20) of the Carolina Hurricanes during the first period of the second game of a Stanley Cup first round playoff series in the NHL hockey NHL. P.A.

Seth Jarvis

After being demoted to the third line to make room for Andrei Svechnikov, Jarvis scored a goal and had a secondary assist to help jumpstart Carolina’s comeback.

Semyon Varlamov

Varlamov’s 34 saves probably understate his performance on a night where Carolina lived in the offensive zone and the Islanders were never comfortable. Varlamov gave his team every chance to win and the Islanders didn’t do enough in front of him.

Key moment

Carolina’s quick recovery to regain momentum after Anders Lee gave the Islanders a 3-0 lead – in the form of an offensive zone pressure that led to Mathew Barzal’s penalty and goal by Teuvo Teravainen – kept their home crowd in the game and ensured it would be a tough lead for the Islanders to defend.
