Sean O’Malley Scored Wild One-Punch KO in Lonely Boxing Fight, Now He Wants Ryan Garcia to Fight

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley is hoping to win a crossover boxing bout with Ryan Garcia.

But it wouldn’t be the first time he put himself on the ropes.

Before bursting onto the MMA scene with a brutal knockout victory over Alfred Khashakyan on a Dana White Contender Series show in 2017 – a victory that resulted in him being offered a contract with the UFC – O’Malley tried his hand at boxing.

At the time, “Suga” was tearing through regional MMA after winning his first four professional fights when he participated in a one-man boxing bout with a journeyman boxer named David Courtney.

The two met at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix on July 16, 2017, and although Courtney was already a veteran of three gloved fights at that point (1-2), he was no match for the newbie.

O’Malley floored Courtney three times in the opening stanza before flattening him with a vicious right hand to close the show with one second left in the first round.

The 29-year-old has since become one of the most recognizable faces in MMA and is now campaigning for a fight with Garcia.

After watching “King Ry” overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to defeat Devin Haney over the distance last weekend, O’Malley revealed a promising conversation he had with the UFC about a possible crossover fight with Garcia.

“They told me we could do a boxing match, 100 percent, if it made us enough money,” O’Malley said on his TimboSugarShow podcast.

“So the option is there, she just has to be able to make enough money.

“But Ryan being a fucking monster like that, you need two A-sides to make a fucking Floyd-Conor fight.”

O’Malley believes a few impressive 135-pound title defenses will be enough to convince Garcia, UFC boss Dana White, and everyone else that the fight is financially viable.

He added: “I’m not there yet, I still need to get bigger.

“Two more crazy performances and then we talk about being able to do what we want.”

Garcia appears more eager to challenge O’Malley in the cage rather than the squared circle, but he welcomed his rival’s ring proposal.

“Rainbow Poop’s brain wants to box, be ready to bleed Rainbow,” he wrote.

“Man bun slash clone Conor wants a boxing match hmmm, I wanted MMA but let’s go, that’s my brother’s name, damn, now I have to destroy you, little pony can’t defeat me.”

Garcia claims he even sent a message to White regarding his clash with O’Malley in the UFC octagon.

“I know I’m going to knock him out in boxing, it’s not even fair. What’s right is to test myself in MMA,” Garcia said on The MMA Hour.

“I already have people connected to Dana asking: let’s do it. I’ll come to the UFC, buy me a bag, I’m there.

“I’m ready to do it. I know if I thought about it and I trained every day and Nate (Diaz) helped me, even Alex Pereira, all of them, and I really locked in, he wouldn’t won’t do it. hit me.

“I will come with everything I have and destroy Sean O’Malley. In the UFC.”
