Scottie Scheffler confirms the birth of his baby son in a candid Instagram post – with the world number 1 now set to play at this week’s PGA Championship

Scottie Scheffler confirmed the birth of her first child, a boy named Bennett, with a heartfelt Instagram post.

The world No. 1 golfer uploaded a photo of the child Monday evening and tagged his wife Meredith in the post.

He wrote: “Welcome to the world, little one. Your mom and dad love you so much.

Although he did not confirm his name or gender, the PGA Tour’s official website states that he and Meredith had a boy and named him Bennett.

The child was born last week, May 8, and Scheffler is scheduled to compete in the PGA Championship at Valhalla this week.

According to the Associated Press, Scheffler’s comrades congratulated him as he arrived at Valhalla for a training session.

LIV golfer Jon Rahm was among the first to greet Scheffler on the green, give him a hug and say, “Did you sleep much?”

Scheffler hasn’t played since winning the RBC Heritage at Harbor Town, a week after winning his second Masters green jacket.

He enters the second major of the year having won four of his last five tournaments, with the exception of a runner-up finish at the Houston Open.

He remains the betting favorite, even though Rory McIlroy has won back-to-back (including a team win with Shane Lowry) and defending champion Brooks Koepka notched his first win of the year at LIV Golf Singapore.

McIlroy won the PGA Championship at Valhalla in 2014, the last time he won a major. Koepka tied for 15th in 2014, a year before joining the PGA Tour.

Scheffler is trying to become the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2015 – and only the fifth player since 1960 – to win the first two majors of the year.
