Roy Jones Jr hilariously explains why he’s not worried about Mike Tyson against Jake Paul

Roy Jones Jr insists Jake Paul is in for a tough night against Mike Tyson.

Concerns have been raised about Tyson’s health as he prepares to box a man 31 years his junior on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

However, Jones Jr, the last man to step between the ropes with the boxing icon, says Paul is the one who needs to be protected.

Joining Darren Bent and Troy Deeney on talkSPORT Drive on Thursday afternoon, ‘RJ’ said: “You won’t see Mike get injured because they put on gloves and a 16oz helmet.

“They didn’t put this on to protect Mike, they put it on to protect Jake.

“When I fought Mike, we weren’t worried about Mike getting hurt, everyone was worried about me getting hurt, I was the little guy.

“We don’t want to see a legend get hurt. I didn’t want to get hurt but I would turn down the opportunity to share the ring with Mike Tyson.

“You have to worry about that when you put two older legends together because sometimes their egos come out and they try to hurt each other.

“But in the Jake Paul situation, I don’t think Jake Paul is good enough to hurt Mike.

“He might be powerful with 10-ounce gloves, but if they had 10-ounce gloves on Mike, it could hurt him.

“I guess Mike would hurt him more than he would hurt Mike.

“The headgear and 16oz gloves are not there to protect the legend Mike Tyson but rather the young kid who doesn’t know what he’s doing when he gets in the ring with Mike Tyson.”

Rules for Tyson vs. Paul have yet to be announced, although “Iron Mike” recently confirmed the fight would be an exhibition fight with “real fight” rules.

Rumors were circulating online that the fight would take place with gloves and a 16-ounce helmet, but esteemed MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reported last month that the contest would adopt a rule similar to that of MMA’s last outing. Tyson vs Jones Jr in 2020.

That night, neither man wore headgear and they put on 12-ounce gloves.
