Wiz Khalifa has been charged with illegal drug possession after consuming marijuana while performing at the Beach Please! festival in Romania on Saturday night.
“The prosecutors of the Directorate for Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Territorial Service of Constanța have ordered the opening of criminal proceedings against an accused (US citizen), investigated for the crime of illegal possession of drugs,” Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors DIICOT said in a press release on Sunday.
“During a recital given as part of a music festival held in the seaside resort of Costinești, in the county of Constanța, (Khalifa) was in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis (a risky drug) and consumed (on stage) another quantity of cannabis in the form of a homemade cigarette.”
Barron’s reports that the 10-time Grammy-nominated singer and others were questioned early Sunday. Khalifa was charged but released.
A video posted online also shows the rapper being escorted out of the festival site, surrounded by a group of Romanian police officers.
In Romania, possession of marijuana can be punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Khalifa — real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz — told X that he had “no intention of disrespecting” Romania by “lighting up on stage.”
“They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But no big joint next time,” he added.
