Even though the franchise may have been rebooted for HBO Max in 2021, let’s be honest: the OG series, which premiered in 2007, is still the number one series. GG in our hearts.
And a big part of its lasting success? The series’ many couples, the characters changing partners faster than little kids excited about a birthday cake play musical chairs. Serena (Blake Lively) romanced Dan (Penn Badgley) and Nate (Chace Crawford), both of whom also dated her best friend Blair (Leighton Meester). And she was in a relationship with Chuck (Ed Westwick), who was secretly with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), which… ok, you understand and honestly, we are exhausted.
Alas, not all couples on the CW series were created equally. While some ships turned out to be epic, others didn’t exactly inspire fans to say those three eight-letter words. Because for every “chair” (Chuck and Blair, duh), there’s the random blonde guy Serena was interested in.
