Oleksandr Usyk offered himself the opportunity to become three-weight world champion

WBC bridgeweight champion Lawrence Okolie called out Oleksandr Usyk after his knockout victory over Lukasz Rozanski.

The Briton clinched the green and gold bracelet on Friday in Poland with a first-round knockout and now eyes a first defense against the Ukrainian slickster.

Usyk is a two-weight world champion having held the heavyweight and cruiserweight world titles.

If Usyk completes the challenge, he could then become a three-weight world champion.

Usyk recently became a two-time undisputed champion after edging out heavyweight Tyson Fury – six years after his reign of cruiserweight supremacy.

It’s more than likely Okolie will defend his bridgeweight crown against WBC interim champion Kevin Lerena in his next outing, but the 31-year-old is eyeing bigger paydays.

“If Usyk decides he wants to become three-weight world champion and I don’t know how many belts there are currently at bridge weight, but there is an opportunity for that too,” Okolie told iFL TV.

“I like it, I feel like everyone had a chance (at Usyk) and I want to go and test him.

“It might sound crazy to other people and I look at him and he’s sensational and very talented, but I have attributes that he hasn’t had to box against in a long time, including speed and stuff like that .

“I would love it if he wants a legacy fight, I’m now a two-weight world champion (former WBO cruiserweight title holder), if he wants to go three-weight, then let’s do it.”

Okolie also fancies a fight with former WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder.

“When there is a belt at stake, it’s always better,” he added, referring to a possible fight with the American.

“Obviously he’s been a WBC heavyweight champion, he’ll probably want to box for a WBC belt.

“It’s also a question of weight, someone like (Zhilei) Zhang will never be a bridge weight, but someone like Wilder is a bridge weight, like Usyk.”

Wilder and Usyk are unlikely to face Okolie anytime soon, if ever, as their next fights are already firmly set in stone.

Usyk is set to return with Fury after ‘The Gypsy King’ recently activated the two-way rematch clause in their contract.

The second fight was initially thought to take place in October, although Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum recently informed talkSPORT that it was more likely to happen late this year or early next year. next year.

Wilder, meanwhile, is set to return to action this weekend against Zhilei Zhang in the unprecedented Queensberry vs Matchroom 5vs5 tournament.

According to Saudi boxing chief HE Turki Alalshikh, Wilder will next face compatriot Jared Anderson in August on the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov undercard, provided he “looks good” against Zhang.
