Nothing sold 100,000 CMF Phone 1 in three hours

Nothing remains a small smartphone and accessory brand in the landscape of big brands, but the company is enjoying great success in the mid-range market. Today, Nothing announced that its new CMF Phone (1), a $199 smartphone, has sold over 100,000 units in just 3 hours.

The CMF Phone 1 is the first smartphone from Nothing’s sub-brand, CMF. The sub-brand launched last year with budget-friendly accessories that attempted to have striking designs. With the CMF Phone 1, the device made headlines for its flashy, customizable design, as well as its extraordinarily low price.

As we said in our review earlier this week, this might be one of the best Android deals around today, and it seems customers agree.

In a post on Twitter/X, Nothing confirms that it has managed to sell over 100,000 CMF Phone 1s in just three hours after the device went on sale. This is considerably faster than the 24 hours it took for the Nothing Phone (2a), the device on which the CMF Phone is largely based, to reach the same figure.

In an expanded statement to GSMArenaAkis Evangeldis, co-founder of Nothing, said:

Following the incredible success of the Phone (2a) in March, the CMF Phone 1 is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant price segment that has seen the same thing in recent years and has often been overlooked. Leveraging Nothing’s innovation and strength in design, the CMF Phone 1 brings something unique, fun and functional, while still delivering an exceptional user experience. Sales are never the end goal, but the result of building quality products that users love – and we couldn’t be more grateful for the market’s reception and achieving this record-breaking result on the first day of sales. We thank the Nothing community, partners and investors for all the support thus far and look forward to continuing to make technology fun again!

It’s also worth noting the timing. The first CMF Phone was announced at 10am local time in the UK, which is very early in the morning for the US region, where Nothing is selling the device as part of a “beta program.” So, assuming that the three hours in question are immediately after the device’s launch (which would likely be the case), it’s unlikely that this initial wave is due to potential customers being impressed by a $199 smartphone in the US.

What do you think of the Nothing CMF Phone 1? Have you bought one?
