Manchester United make Donny van de Beek transfer decision as move to Premier League rival ruled out

Donny van de Beek’s agent has rejected the idea of him joining a Premier League rival upon his return to Manchester United.

The midfielder joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in the Bundesliga in January after playing just 21 minutes at United earlier this season.

Van de Beek’s move includes a call option worth £9.5million, but talkSPORT understands Frankfurt are unwilling to trigger it.

He has made just four starts in eight appearances for the club and is now expected to return to United, his agent Guido Albers has confirmed.

The 27-year-old was previously his client before moving to Ali Dursun two years ago, but the pair are now back together.

And in an interview with ESPN, Albers spoke about what the summer has in store for Van de Beek: “I’ve spoken to him a lot. He’s hungry and impatient. I’m leaving with Eintracht Frankfurt.

“They still had an option to buy until June 30, but they are not going to exercise it. He is returning to Manchester United. We are now discussing how to take the next step from there.”

Albers then appeared to rule out a move to another Premier League club when he added: “The Premier League is not a good fit for him now.

“In any case, he will not return to Ajax. My preference is to go to Spain, Italy and France. If I could bring him to Spain or Italy, that would be fantastic.

“He has to go to a club where he will play in 2010, like he played at Ajax. There he showed what a fantastic player he can be.”

His last appearance for United came in a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in September.

This summer could prove crucial for Van de Beek as his contract at United ends in June 2025, which would make him a free agent.

He signed for the Premier League giants in 2020 after a successful move to Ajax in a deal worth £35m plus £5m in add-ons.

However, Van de Beek endured a difficult time at Old Trafford, making just 62 appearances in all competitions across four seasons.

Much of his fortunes, however, have been affected by injuries, including a ligament strain which kept him out for half of last season.

His loan move to Frankfurt is his second spell away from United after spending the first months of 2022 at Everton, with a permanent exit mooted for the Dutchman this summer.
