Man who walked away from reentry program March 15 arrested in Escondido

A prisoner who walked away from a reentry program has been taken into custody, authorities said.

The 53-year-old man was arrested Sunday in Escondido by the Escondido Police Department following a short foot chase, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

He was taken to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. His case will be referred to the district attorney’s office for possible escape charges.

He had been sentenced to six years in prison for domestic violence and had been participating in San Diego’s male community reentry program since Jan. 23, authorities said. He reportedly left the program on March 15.

The MCRP allows eligible individuals incarcerated in state prison to serve the remainder of their sentences in the Reentry Center and provides programs for transitioning from custody to the community. This is a voluntary program for men who have approximately two years or less left to serve.
