Man United could have depleted defence against Liverpool as Jonny Evans goes off injured
Manchester United could only have two central defenders for Liverpool following the injury to Jonny Evans.
The veteran defender was brought on to replace Raphael Varane for the second half of their clash against Chelsea on Thursday night before coming off in the 66th minute.
Evans had to leave injured, with Willy Kambwala replacing him for the rest of the match.
Barring any injury concerns, he and Harry Maguire could be the only centre-backs available for United to face Liverpool on Sunday.
Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof have both been out for a month, with Erik ten Hag’s resources limited.
United beat Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the end of March, so the Reds will be looking for revenge on their rivals.
Jurgen Klopp’s side sit at the top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of Arsenal and three ahead of Manchester City.
Ten Hag’s side have the chance to derail Liverpool’s title chances, but a depleted defense will be a cause for concern for them.
The Reds’ 70 goals are the second highest total in the Premier League this season, just two short of Arsenal in first place.
United have conceded 42 league goals throughout the campaign and that could increase this weekend.
They are chasing the final top four spot currently occupied by Aston Villa, with Tottenham also in contention.
United are expected to have a worse final ranking than last season, when they finished third, but qualification for Europe is still at stake.
