Man City are keen on Joshua Kimmich but unsettled Bayern Munich star is best suited to title rivals Arsenal

Joshua Kimmich could be set to leave Bayern Munich this summer – and Arsenal have been earmarked as the ideal destination.

talkSPORT reported earlier this year how the 29-year-old was being monitored by Manchester City and Liverpool amid his contract situation.

With just a year remaining on his contract at the Allianz Arena, it remains to be seen whether the Germany international will end his nine-year stay in Bavaria.

But in a potential blow to the player’s pursuit by the Citizens and Reds, Arsenal have been named as the ideal place for Kimmich should he decide to leave.

This is according to European football expert Kevin Hatchard, who believes Kimmich’s versatility, capable of playing as a midfielder or inverted right-back, makes him best suited to the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking on Hawksbee & Jacobs, Hatchard was asked what kind of fee Bayern could charge for the ex-RB Leipzig star, to which he replied: “It’s always difficult to know with only one year .

“And the other thing that comes into play is how much interest there will be. I suspect there’s a lot of it.

“Because you have a guy there, who yeah, his form hasn’t been great in the last couple of years, for club and for country.

“But in midfield he can be excellent in the right conditions, and there are not many guys who can play that full-back role like he can.

“So if you look at Arsenal for example, well, they like full-backs who can be quite versatile and can invert and move around midfield.

“Well, she’s absolutely someone who could do that.”

Arsenal will take a closer look at Kimmich later this month with the Gunners facing Bayern in the Champions League quarter-final, with the first leg taking place at the Emirates on Tuesday, live on talkSPORT.

German football expert Constantin Eckner explains how Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi is the favorite to become the new boss of Bayern Munich replacing Thomas Tuchel.

Although Kimmich remains a key player for Bayern, Hatchard explained that he could be transferred.

He commented: “There have been tentative talks that Bayern would want to sit down with him, want to discuss what is going to happen.

“But nothing concrete at this stage, and Bayern have to make important decisions this summer about the direction they want to take.

“Has this group been together too long? Do they need to restructure it? Do they need new personalities to move the team forward?

“I think Alphonso Davies is going to leave, I think it’s clear, whether he leaves this summer or at the end of his contract (in 2025).

“And there has been no real progress with Kimmich, and the feeling is that they are going to wait at least until the summer to decide what they want to do.

“One of the main reasons for that is that Thomas Tuchel came in and sort of publicly undermined Kimmich, saying that no one was untouchable.

Kimmich has played regularly for Bayern so far in the 2023/24 season.

“He pulled Kimmich pretty early in some games, and Kimmich is clearly very upset and disturbed by that.

“The fact that he is a lock for Bayern as would have been the case in years past may no longer be the case.”
