Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass embarrassingly retracted her tweet after the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Following the 106-108 loss that saw the Purple and Gold receive a gentleman’s sweep against the Denver Nuggets, Bass took to Twitter with an enthusiastic tone about their season.

“Tough season, but at least we won the season tournament,” Bass said. “Proud of our team @lakers.”

The Lakers won the first NBA In-Season tournament in December. While this added another trophy to their case, it is nowhere as valuable as the team’s 17 NBA titles.

After being criticized by fans for her tweet, Bass tried again, writing: “You left it all on the floor – thank you @lakers.” However, fans still criticized the quality of his first message.

“Much better,” exclaimed one disappointed fan.

“Bro deleted the old one,” wrote another.

The Lakers have now suffered back-to-back playoff losses to the defending champions in Denver. Last year, the teams met in the Western Conference Finals before the Nuggets beat Miami for the title.

The Lakers avoided getting swept by winning Game 4, 108-119. However, Nikola Jokic’s 25-20 double-double and Jamal Murray’s 32-point performance allowed Denver to edge the Lakers in the closing game.

On the other hand, LeBron James was one rebound away from a triple-double with 30 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. Every other Lakers starter was in double figures as well, including a 17-point, 15-rebound performance from Anthony Davis in their losing effort.
