  • The Manchester United left-back has not played a minute since mid-February.
  • LISTEN It all begins! ‘There’s not a lot of positivity about his game’ – why did Gareth Southgate choose Luke Shaw?

Gareth Southgate’s decision to select Luke Shaw for Euro 2024 despite his lack of fitness has raised eyebrows.

England have so far failed to live up to expectations, edging out Serbia in a 1-0 win before a disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark.

Right-back Kieran Trippier started both matches at left-back in place of Shaw, who continues to recover from a hamstring injury as part of a personal program, having not played a game minute of action for England or Manchester United since mid-February.

Ahead of the third and final group match against Slovenia on Tuesday, Ian Ladyman claimed Shaw’s selection was worth the risk in the latest episode of It’s All Kicking Off! podcast.

Meanwhile, Mail Sport chief reporter Sami Mokbel revealed that Shaw is not fitter as he has not trained since the middle of last week.
