Kieran Trippier says England can win Euro 2024 and explains how Cole Palmer ‘surprised’ him

Kieran Trippier believes England can win Euro 2024 and thinks none of his teammates should be afraid to say so.

The Newcastle United right-back is set to captain the Three Lions at St James’ Park in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he is looking forward to the start of the tournament.

Trippier could play a very important role for England due to Luke Shaw’s injury, leaving Gareth Southgate without a natural left-back.

The former Tottenham and Atletico Madrid player has been a key part of the England team for a long time and often plays on the left for his country.

He has participated in the Three Lions’ last three major tournaments and knows the team inside out, which is why he is confident heading into the Euros.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, he said: “We shouldn’t hesitate to say we can win it.

“We are not arrogant. I fully believe that with the team we have we can go all the way.”

During his time at club and international level, Trippier has played with some exceptional players, so if he praises someone, point them out.

And one player who has particularly impressed the Newcastle man is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT’s Faye Carruthers about Palmer, he said: “It’s the first time I’ve trained with Cole; he’s really surprised me – a top quality player.”

When asked to elaborate further on Palmer, Trippier said: “It’s just the way he finds pockets (of space).

“His awareness of where others are and how smart he is for such a young age.

Indeed, Southgate confirmed that Bukayo Saka would be rested, opening up a place on the right for Palmer.

The former Manchester City man was the signing of the season and helped Chelsea finish sixth and secure Europa Conference League football next season.

He has scored 22 Premier League goals and set up 11 more for the Blues and this form has been rewarded with two England caps in November 2023.

He’s a player in a rich vein of form who looks to have a bright future ahead of him and Trippier is a big fan.

It is possible that by the end of Euro 2024, he will not be the only Englishman to say this.
